Book Description
INSIDE SolidWorks provides engineering professionals with a comprehensive introduction to SolidWorks, the first solid modeling program to run in native Windows 95 and Windows NT environments. The author takes care to guide readers through beginning to increasingly more advanced SolidWorks functionality and thinking by describing-and showing-through examples and exercises how to apply the software to a multitude of widely divergent manufacturing processes. Step-by-step examples within chapters enable readers to build a sample part based on topics covered. Q&A sections support chapter discussion, and end-of chapter exercises provide hands-on experience with the software's functionality.

Reviewer: David Elliott "Rags & Old Iron" (Marlborough, MA United States)
This is the big fat reference book. Every computer application needs one - and this is it for SolidWorks. If you are just learning I recommend Planchard's Engineering Design with SolidWorks first. But if you are already familiar with the territory, Inside SolidWorks will provide the nitty gritty detail for functionality you didn't know existed, often cutting through corporate SolidWorks obfuscation. I'll read a paragraph and think, this guy is a god! I have used the book extensively for years, basing much of the class I teach on it, and there remains much still to read. The only downside is that as a reference it has few examples. Thankfully, Thompson has finally updated it for 2006. Get the update, ISBN 1418020850, due out Oct 5 2005.
